Hello Macaroni Kid Families!

It’s that time of year again, the summer reading program!  If your household is anything like mine, we look forward to this every year! This program has become a family tradition to take part in reading.  We have found that it is always filled with fun activities, events, and pure joy.  As a mom, it is wonderful to see the sense of accomplishment on their little faces after they have finished a book.  I am sure you have seen the face, a smile from ear to ear! Simple and beautiful.

Alright, let’s dive into how you can sign up and be a part of a wonderful program that encourages reading growth, creativity, and adventure.  We now have two local programs going on: Pierce County Library and Puyallup Public Library.  Both programs are using the same reading app that will be your one-stop-shop for this program.  This is how you can track your success, see what fun events are going on, and find new challenges that allow you to earn badges.

Pierce County Library Summer Program (FREE):

Download the Beanstack Tracker app from Google Play or the App Store to get started or sign up online. Once you have registered for the program, you can track your reading progress and earn badges and prizes. The app also includes age-specific booklists that include online resources.

For people without internet access or computers, we will have some grab and go activities people can pick up from the libraries, and we will bring our Summer Reading services out to places in our communities. As you return books please note they will not be checked in for 72 hours and will still show on your account during that time.

Virtual events will be held online throughout the summer and will include Summer Reading program favorites such as Science Tellers and the Travelling Lantern. Library events such as story time and STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts, and math – activities will also be available online. Additionally, Teens can interact with Teen Librarians on Instagram.

Puyallup Public Library Summer Program (FREE):

As you read books and engage in the activities, you are eligible to win badges and prizes. The best way to track your progress is through the Beanstack app or website.  If you created an account in previous years, you can use the same account.

To get the most out of your summer reading experience, we recommend that you create a Beanstack account.  Parents can also create accounts for their children.  In Beanstack, you can view the available activities, enter the books you have read, write book reviews and more.  You will receive prizes as you progress and be entered into drawings at the end of the summer. To register, visit the Beanstack website or login through the app.

Beanstack app available for iOS and Android.  Beanstack will automatically direct you to the appropriate activities based on your age.  There are three age groups: kids, teens and adults.  If you wish to be contacted about prizes and drawings, please include an email address or telephone number as part of your Beanstack profile.

Did you know that you can do a variety of activities to gain summer reading badges?  We have 3 colorful game boards to help you track your progress and earn raffle tickets

For kids, there is a Candyland-styled board that helps you track your reading and contains a host of fairytale characters to enjoy along the way.
