5 Ways to Beat the Heat

May 19, 2017

With the weather in the upper 70's and 80's next week here a a few ways to cool off!

  1. Sensory Ice Play - Fill a small bucket, pool, or any container with a bit of water. Add some ice and a few toys that float and some that sink. BONUS: put small items in the ice tray and freeze them into the ice cubes for little ones to "break". For bigger cubes put items inside a balloon then fill water, tie, and freeze!
  2. Rain Gutter River - Put two large containers (ie under bed storage containers) at two different heights (one higher than the other) and a piece of rain gutter in between. Add cups, rubber ducks, boats, etc to send down the "river"
  3. Spray Bottle/Squirt Gun Art - Fill a bottle or squirt gun with colored water. Squirt onto paper. Then when it gets too warm you can have a water fight!
  4. Sponge toss - Soak a large sponge (like the ones used to wash cars) and play catch!
  5. DIY PVC Sprinkler - you can build this however you want using PVC from the hardware store. Large square on the ground, raining tower, straight line, etc. add a coupler on the end to connect the hose. Drill holes in the PVC where you want the water to come out and BOOM! Instant cheap sprinkler!

NOTE:

The Kiwanis Kids Spray Park in Pioneer Park is scheduled to open for the season on Friday, May 26th! The spray park will be open daily from 10am to 8pm until Labor Day.
